We all have the best intentions when we get ready to go out, whether it’s on a shopping trip, a brunch date or cocktails. But let’s be real for a second, here. York is not exactly stiletto-heel friendly, am I right?!

The best way to get ready for spring is to switch up your shoes, but the last thing you want is bruised legs/broken toes/chipped nailpolish! We’ve rounded up 5 pairs to get you excited for spring without the “wobbly-ankle” ritual.

  1. Platform slippers, Mint Velvet, £79

I am so grateful for platform trainers being a thing. I swear I would live in my Nikes otherwise. These have quite a high, daring platform; just what you need to replace the pretty court shoes that can’t brave cobblestones! These exist in ‘natural’ and in black, so take your pick depending on the occasion. We can see them being awesome with ankle grazers in the daytime and tailored shorts in the evening.

Buy them here or on Low Petergate.

  1. Embroidered wrap espadrilles, next, £40

If you’re really looking to channel some hippie holiday vibes, these are your shoes. There’s something undoubtedly spring-like about the ankle wrap, and the embroidery is quite the trend these days. They’re flat but they’re cool. Way cooler than your friend’s wobbly ankles.

Wouldn’t they look great with your glossy tanned legs (I like bondi sands) and a bell sleeved dress? Thought so.

Buy them here or on Coney Street.

  1. Multistrap sandal, Topshop, £56

One thing. Block heel. Block heels are everything when you’re not sure a normal heel will face up to the challenge. They’re sturdy but not chunky, and the buckles give you a springtime vibe without going too bare just yet! Plus, the darker colour scheme makes them an easy transitional piece; they’ll still match your black ripped jeans and dark leather jacket!

Buy them here  or in the Coppergate centre.

  1. Peep toe ankle boots, New Look, £37.99

Another block heel! These are a tad warmer, if you get cold feet like I do. They show just enough skin to wear with dress or skirt, but would also totally work with a pair of jeans. And they’re so versatile; probably even appropriate to wear to work, for some of you!

Buy them here or on Parliament Street.

  1. Leather straps sandal, Mango, £59.99

This isn’t quite a block heel (I’m not sure what it is!) but it’s definitely up there with the easy-to-walk-in heels. I chose to include a brighter shoe because what screams ‘SPRING!’ like coloured accessories? These will also transition nicely into summer, so they’re a worthwhile purchase that’ll last you the entire season. Wouldn’t they look super cool with a neutral or white outfit and matching red lipstick or nails?
